“Prep blanks Mercyhurst 6-0”

(Sr.P) Bryan Colish and (Sr.P) Paul Kubeja combined for a one hit shut out Wednesday afternoon at Mercyhurst College. (Jr. RF) Joe Lauria had 4 hits and scored two runs, (Jr 1B) Joe Glowacki and (Sr. C) Mike Travers added two hits a piece with Glowacki adding two RBI’s. The Ramblers are back in action Thursday afternoon against Central 4:00pm @ Ainsworth.

Coach D’s Recap: “Bryan and Paul did a great job shutting down a pretty good hitting team. Lauria, Glowacki and Travers looked patient at the plate and did a good job of getting the barrel on the baseball.”

“Ramblers beat GM 4-3.”

Prep beat General McLane last night 4-3 behind a strong pitching performance from (Jr. P) Dave Spaeder. Prep scored in the 1st with an RBI walk from (Jr. Ryan Bihler). Prep then scored in the 4th with a double by (Jr. RF) Joe Lauria who then moved to third on a balk, and then scored on a wild pitch. Prep scored two more with back to back RBI doubles by (So. 3B) Phil Sorensen and (Sr. 1B) Bryan Colish. Spaeder struck out 5 and walked none as the Ramblers moved to 12-3 on the season.

Coach D’s Recap: “Jon Danielczyk called a great game. Dave Spaeder hit his spots and did a great job settling done after the 1st. Joe, Phil, and Bryan did a nice job coming up with some key hits. Carl Piotrowski and Keith Blazek did a great job of executing sac bunts.”

Dave Spaeder earned his 4th win of the season.

 

“Prep beats McDowell 6-5”

A strong pitching performance from (Sr. P) Bryan Colish and a game winning single in the top of the seventh by (Sr. CF) Kyle Laugher lifted Prep to a 6-5 victory Wednesday afternoon. Colish went the distance striking out five and allowing only two hits. The Ramblers scored in first in the 3rd inning with a single by (Jr. 1B) Joe Glowacki and a RBI triple by (Jr. SS) Keith Blazek. Prep scored four in the 5th with back to back walks by (Jr. RF) Joe Lauria and (Jr. LF) Ryan Bihler, then eventually scoring on throwing errors. (So. 3B) Phil Sorensen ended the scoring with an RBI single. With the game tied in the top of the 7th, Kyle Laughner singled in Sorensen to move the score to 6-5. Colish closed the door in the bottom of the 7th earning his 4th victory of the season.

Coach D’s Recap: “We did an excellent job being patient in the 5th inning getting base runners. Bryan pitched a great game, he spotted his pitches well and maintained his composure during the tough stretch of the bottom of the 5th

“Ramblers beat Strong Vincent 15-4”

(Sr. SS) Bill Colt and (Sr. 1B) Bryan Colish combined for 5 hits and 7 RBI’s as Prep rolled to a 15-4 win against Vincent Friday night. (Jr. P) Dave Spaeder got his 3rd victory of the season, striking out five and walking one. (So. 3B) Phil Sorensen added two hits and (Jr. C) Jon Danielczyk added two RBI’s. Prep will play Monday April 28 vs Central @ Ainsworth at 4:00pm.

Coach D’s recap: “I was happy the way our guys put pressure on their defense when we got down in the 2nd inning. We did a good job of staying back and getting the barrel on the baseball.”

“Ramblers pound out 12 hits against East”

(Jr. 1B) Joe Glowacki had three hits and four RBI’s as Prep beats East 9-1. (Jr. LF) Ryan Bihler and (Jr. RF) added two hits a piece as (SR. P) Bryan Colish picked up his third victory of the season. Colish struck out 11 and walked none. The Ramblers are back in action Friday night vs Vincent @Ainsworth at 6:30pm.

Coach D’s Recap: “We did a good job of staying back and attacking the baseball. We got a nice pitching performance from Bryan. He did a good job of keeping hitters off balanced.”

“Prep loses to McDowell 10-3”

Prep went up two on McDowell in the top of the first with a 2 RBI single by (Jr. LF) Ryan Bihler,  but surrendered six in the bottom half of the inning to fall behind 6-2. Prep never got back on the board until the 5th inning with a sac fly by (Sr. RF) Kyle Laughner.

(Sr. 1B) Bryan Colish ended the night with 2 hits. Prep will be back in action on Wednesday April 23 vs East 6:30 @ Ainsworth Field.

Coach D’s Recap: “ We set the tone in the top of the first, then didn’t execute defensively committing costly errors that allowed extra bases and base runners. We will bounce back on Wednesday.”

“Ramblers beat Central in Four innings”

Prep scored 4 runs in each of the first four innings to beat Central 16-0 Wednesday night at Ainsworth Field. (Jr. SS) Keith Blazek started  the game with a hit by pitch. (So. 3B) Phil Sorensen then doubled and moved Blazek to third. Back to back walks by (Sr. 1B) Bryan Colish and (Sr. RF) Kyle Laughner scored the Ramblers first run. (Jr. LF) Ryan Bihler then scored Colish and Laughner on a 2 RBI single. (Sr. 2B) Bill Colt then scored Laughner on a sac fly. Prep went on to score 12 more runs in the next three innings for a 16-0 final. (Jr. P) Dave Spaeder picked up his 2nd victory of the season. Prep moved to 7-2 on the season. The Ramblers are back in action on Friday vs McDowell 7:00pm @ Jerry Uht Park.

“Prep wins 4th Straight”

(Sr. DH) Mike Travers added two hits and had two stolen bases as Prep beat Titusville 13-6 Thursday afternoon. (Sr. 1B) Bryan Colish, (Sr. CF) Jason Bottoni, and

(Jr. INF) Joe Glowacki contributed to the victory with 2 RBI’s each. (Sr. P) Mark Pompeani and (Sr. P) Paul Kubeja allowed 4 hits as Pompeani picked up his 3rd victory of the season. The Ramblers will be back in action on Monday April 14, vs Warren @ Gate of Heaven field at 4:00pm.

Coach D’s Recap: “We didn’t have the focus we needed the first inning, after we got through the first, we settled down and did a nice job manufacturing runs”

“Ramblers Roll Oil City”

Cathedral Prep baseball team scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with two outs to go on to beat Oil City 11-1.

(Jr. P) Dave Spaeder picked up his first win of the season by striking out 9 and walking none. (Sr. RF) Kyle Laughner added two extra base hits, including a bases clearing triple. Kyle had 4 RBI’s for the afternoon. Prep will be in action on Thursday @ Titusville 4:00pm.

Coach D’s Recap: Dave spotted his pitches very well, his off speed was effective and our defense made the routine plays. Kyle did an outstanding job of taking good at bats yesterday. I am happy the way our 1-9 guys swung the bat.

 

“Pompeani, Kubeja, and Colish handle Commodore Perry 7-0”

Mark Pompeani picked up his second win of the season by pitching 5 scoreless innings Tuesday afternoon at Ainsworth Field. The ramblers scored three in the 1st with a RBI single from (So.) Phil Sorensen and a 2 RBI single from (Jr.) Ryan Bihler. Prep also added three in the 3rd with a three run blast from (Sr.) Bryan Colish. That was the second this season from Colish. (Sr.) Paul Kubeja pitched two scoreless innings to secure the shutout. Prep moved to 3-1 on the year and the next game will be Monday, April 7th @ Franklin High School.

“Ramblers go 2-1 on Florida Trip”

The Cathedral Prep baseball team started their season off on a high note winning 2 games and only dropping one in Orlando, FL. The Florida teams that Prep played had a combined record of  31-6. Prep did a tremendous job of competing in all of the games and showed much character.

Game 1 Summary Cathedral Prep 3 vs Crystal River 1

Prep took on their Florida rival Crystal River, who were undefeated at the start of the game. Prep scored first with a lead off single by (Sr.) Jason Bottoni. Then he moved to third on an error by the catcher. Bottoni eventually scored on a wild pitch. Prep added two more in the sixth with a double by Bottoni, and scored on a single from (Sr.) Bill Colt. Then back to back singles from (So.) Phil Sorensen and (Sr.) Bryan Colish loaded up the bases. (Sr.) Carl Piotrowski brought in Colt on a fielders choice to increase the lead to 3-0. Starting pitcher (Sr.) Mark Pompeani went the distance striking out 5 and walking none. Pompeani picks up the first victory of the season for the Ramblers.

Coach D’s Recap: “Mark threw very well. I was impressed with his 1st outing. He spotted his pitches very effectively and kept a very good hitting team off balance. We did a good job of getting guys on base and putting the ball in play when we needed to.”

Game 2 Summary  Cathedral Prep 8 vs Springstead  5

Cathedral Prep won their second consecutive game in Florida, by beating Springstead high school 8-5. Prep collected 16 hits behind a strong pitching performance from Bryan Colish and Paul Kubeja. Leading the offense were (Sr.) Mike Travers; 4 hits 2 RBI,  (So.) Phil Sorensen; 4 hits, (Sr.) Bryan Colish; 3 hits 2 RBI and a home run, and (Sr.) Kyle Laughner; 3 hits. Colish picked up his first win of the season striking out 6.

Coach D’s Recap: “I liked the way we made adjustments at the plate. The second time through the lineup we swung the bats with a purpose and control.”

Game 3 Summary  Cathedral Prep 4 vs Mt. Dora 5

The Ramblers dropped their first game of the season to Mt. Dora high school. Prep tied the game in the third with a two out base hit by (So.) Phil Sorensen. Then a double by (Sr.) Bryan Colish moved Sorensen to third. (Jr.) Ryan Bihler then tied the game with a single. Mt. Dora rattled off three hits and in row in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-1. Prep scored one in the sixth on a sac fly from (Sr.) Kyle Laughner to score Bihler brining Mt. Dora’s lead to 2 runs. Prep rallied in the seventh with a lead off triple by (Sr.) Bill Colt, then scored on a single by (Sr.) Jason Bottoni. Bottoni then scored on a double by (Sr.) Mike Travers, tying the game at 4. Mt. Dora scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to end Prep’s two game winning streak. Dave Spaeder picked up the loss pitching 6 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking two.

Coach D’s Recap:  “I was very happy the way our kids battled back and never gave up. Mt. Dora was a very well coached and fundamentally sound team. Our kids should be proud of the way they played.”
