Ramblers Win 4th Straight District 10 Championship!

The Prep Baseball team set a school record by winning its fourth straight D 10 Championship Tuesday night at Ainsworth field. The Ramblers took an early one run lead in the top of the second  with a lead off walk to (Sr. LF) Conor Connell. He was moved to second by a sac bunt from (Jr. 1B) Bryan Colish. Connell scored on a Rbi single by (Sr. RF) Matt Lewis. McDowell tied in the bottom half of the inning by a solo homerun. Then in the fourth, Prep erupted for six runs starting off with a one out single by Matt Lewis, then a walks by (Jr. DH) Mike Travers and (So. 3B) Keith Blazek. (Sr. CF) Mike Schupp brought in Lewis on a fielder's choice. (Sr. SS) Shane Braendel then had an infield hit which loaded the bases. (Sr. 2B) Ryan Tann walked and brought in Blazek. With the bases stil loaded, Bryan Colish blasted three run triple making the score 7-1. McDowell scored 3 in the bottom of the 4th and 2 in the bottom of the fifth. (Sr.P) Matt Passaeur pitched  four strong innings setting the tone early in the game by going 1-2-3 in the first. (Jr. P) Mark Pompeani relieved Passauer in the 5th inning allowing one hit and surrendering one run to get out of a tough situation. Pompeani completed the game allowing one more hit and no runs. 
 
Coach D's Recap: Our guys came in focused and stayed focused for the whole game. We had a great week of preparation and executed our game plan. We did an excellent job of working their pitchers, and when we needed a timely hit we got a big one from Colish. Passauer and Pompeani handled their batters very well. I am very proud of these guys and what they did. It's always great to be playing high school baseball in June.

Prep beats Harborcreek in extra innings.

Cathedral Prep baseball team scored three runs in the top of the 7th and four in the top of the 8th to beat the Huskies 9-6 at Harborcreek field on Monday.
(Jr. LF) Jason Bottoni lead off the 7th with a double. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Rbi single by (Sr. SS ) Shane Braendel. Back to back
singles by (Sr. 2B) Ryan Tann and (Sr. DH) Conor Connell and HBP by (Jr. 1B) Bryan Colish loaded the bases. (Sr. C) Matt Lindenberger then singled in
two runs and tied the game at 5. Matt Passauer shut down the bottom of the 7th and then the Ramblers erupted for 4 with a three run homerun by Braendel
and a solo shot by Connell. The Ramblers improved to 10-5, and will play Central Tech Wednesday 4:00 at Ainsworth.

Coach D’s Recap: “We started off strong in the 1st scoring two, however, we didn’t make any adjustments until the end of the game.
It was good that we kept battling especially in the 7th and 8th innings.”

Prep beats Central 12-1 in Five Innings

(Sr.P) James Orloff and (Sr. DH) Conor Connell led the Ramblers to victory Wednesday afternoon at Ainsworth field. Orloff picked up his 3rd victory of the season, scattering 4 hits and giving up one run. Conor paced the Rambler attack with 3 hits, 3 runs and 2RBI. (Jr. 1B) Bryan Colish added 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI. The Ramblers are back in action on Friday against General McLane 4pm at Ainsworth Field.

Coach D's Recap: James did a good job of throwing strikes and our defense played well. Conor and Bryan did a nice job of hitting with runners on base and moving the baseball.

Prep loses 4-1

Cathedral Prep lost to McDowell 4-1 at Jerry Uht Park Monday evening. Prep only managed one hit and scored in the top of the 7th inning by a fielder’s choice. Matt Passauer gave up 10 scattered hits and took his second loss of the season. Prep is now 5-4 and 1-2 in region play. The Ramblers play against Central on Wednesday at 6:30 at Ainsworth.

Coach D’s Recap: We didn’t do much to put ourselves in a position to succeed. It took the last inning for a base runner to reach third base. I didn’t see our guys make too many adjustments at the plate.

Prep wins two over the weekend

The Cathedral Prep baseball team belted out 29 hits over the weekend to beat Strong Vincent 15-0 and East 16-3 on Saturday and Sunday. The Ramblers got strong pitching performances from (Sr. P) James Orloff and (Sr.P) Conor Connell. Leading the offensive attack were (Sr. 2B) Ryan Tann 5 for 7, (Sr.SS) Shane Braendel 4 for 8, (Jr 1B) Bryan Colish 4 for 6, and (So. 3B) Keith Blazek 4 for 6. 

Coach D’s Recap: James and Conor did a really great job throwing strikes and our defense played very well. We were able to get guys on base just about every inning this weekend. When you do that, it puts us in a very advantageous situation.

Ramblers go 1-1 over the Weekend

 
The Cathedral Prep baseball team went 1-1 over the weekend, losing on Friday 12-10 against McDowell, and bouncing back on Saturday to beast Central 6-3.
The Ramblers lost a tough on Friday being outscored 12-10. (Sr.CF) Mike Schupp had 2 hits, 2 RBI, and 2 stolen bases. (Sr C) Matt Lindenberger, (Sr DH) Conor Connell and (Jr 1B) Bryan Colish added two hits a piece. On Saturday, Prep jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and added one in the second and two in the 5th inning to beat Central 6-3. Shane Braendel and Matt Lindenberger paced the Ramblers with 2 hits a piece. Prep is now 1-1 in the region and 3-3 overall. The Ramblers are back in action against East High on Wednesday 4:00 at Ainsworth.
 
Coach D's Recap: I was pleased the way we bounced back defensively on Saturday. We just have to keep getting better each time we take the field. It seems like we haven't been able to get our offense, defense, and pitching in sync.

Ramblers win season opener (April 2, 2007)

Cathedral Prep won its first game of the season by defeating Slippery Rock 8-3. Matt Passauer pitched 5 innings while earning the win, striking out 5 and scattering 3 hits. Paul Kubeja picked up the save going 2 innings striking out 1 and and giving up 1 hit. Mike Schupp, Matt Lewis and Conor Connell led the Rambler attack adding 2 hits a piece. Schupp had 2 doubles and Conor added two RBI's. The Ramblers will play again on Wednesday in Tampa, FL against Crystal River.
 
Coach D's recap: I was very happy with the pitching performance on Matt and Paul. They got out of some tough situations and handled the pressure very well. Our timing was a bit off at the plate, being that it's our first game, we did a good job of taking advantage of Slippery Rock's miscues.
 

2007 Prep Baseball Captains

Seniors Mike Schupp, Matt Lindenberger, and Shane Braendel have been named captains for the 2007 baseball season. “Mike, Matt and Shane have a combined 11 years of experience on the Varsity level. They exhibit leadership skills and have a commanding presence on the baseball field.” Coach D

 

Mike Schupp Signs with Navy

 Senior outfielder Mike Schupp has signed a letter of intent to play football at The United States Naval Academy. Mike hit .415 for the Ramblers last year scoring 21 times and stealing 21 bases. “Mike’s work ethic and athletic ability will be a great fit for Navy. I am proud that Mike has chosen such an elite institution to further his academics and football playing career.”  Coach D
