Junior Varsity Results
Lawrence and Scarpitti sign with colleges. Alan Lawrence and Justin Scarpitti will continue playing baseball by signing letters of intent to their perspective colleges. Lawrence(Sr./P) signed with Wallace St., a junior college in Alabama. Justin(Sr./1B) signed with Thiel College in Greenville PA. Lawrence led the Prep pitching staff with 57 innings pitched and 68 strikeouts. Scarpitti batted .403 and had 21 RBI and 17 runs. "Alan will provide Wallace St. with a strong base for pitching and a willingness to excel as a collegiate pitcher. Alan did an excellent job at Prep, and we were fortunate to have had such a great player."
June 13th, 2006 - Ramblers lose tough one in the Western finals The Cathedral Prep's baseball season has come to an end with a 9-7 loss to Manheim township. In the first inning, Manheim scored two on a two run single by Brenie Zaritzky. Prep answered back by putting six on the board. Started off by a walk by Jake Perez, then followed by a single by Ryan Tann. Perez and Tann moved to second and third from a single by Shane Braendel. Justin Scarpitti scored Perez on a fielder's choice. Matt Stephany singled home Tann and Braendel to make it 3-2. Mike Schupp then got on from an infield hit. An error by the shortstop from Matt Lewis' bat scored Stephany. Matt Lindenberger then doubled to right center to score both Schupp and Lewis. Manheim battled in the second and ended up scoring four more to make it tied at 6. Manheim added one more in the fourth and two more in the seventh to make the score 9-6. Prep scored one more in the seventh, but came up a little short. Ryan Tann lead the Ramblers with two hits, Matt Stephany and Matt Lindenberger each had two RBI. Coach D's Remarks: I am very proud of what this 06 Rambler team has accomplished. We made some good noise in the playoffs. These guys need to realize that we made it to the final four in the state in AAAA baseball, that means that we are one of the four top teams in the state of Pennsylvania. These guys will remember the run that we put together and how much fun we had doing it.
Prep got off to an early lead in the third with a hit by pitch by Jake Perez, then Perez moved to second off of a Ryan Tann single. Shane Braendel then singled home Perez to jump out 1-0. The Ramblers scored again in the fourth from a single by Mike Schupp, then scored on a Matt Lewis double. They got one more with a two out single by Shane Pacileo, then Justin Scarpitti reached base on an error. A walk by Matt Stephany, loaded the bases. Mike Schupp then scored Pacileo on an infield single. Alan Lawrence went the distance for Prep, striking out 6 and giving up 8 hits. The Ramblers play again on Thursday at a site and time to be determined. Coach D's Remarks: "Alan had command of all his pitches today. He did an excellent job keeping hitters off balanced. We came up with some big hits and scoring those 3 runs in three consecutive innings really put the pressure on Norwin. We have to keep our focus high because it will not get any easier from here."
May 25th, 2006 - Ramblers win third straight District 10 Title
Prep jumped out on a
two run lead in the
first inning with a
base hit by Jake
Perez, then followed
up with a
Ryan Tann single. Perez then scored on a wild pitch, and Ryan Tann scored on a Justin Scarpitti single. Prep got two more in the 6th with Mike Schupp and pinch runner Bryan Colish scoring on an error and a wild pitch.
Alan Lawrence went
the distance and
earned his fourth
victory of the
season by allowing
only 5 hits and
walking 3. Prep
will start their
inter-district
play on June 5th at
a site to be
determined.
Coach D's Remarks:
"I am very
proud of
what these guys have
accomplished thus
far. We maintained
our
focus during our preparation for this game and we put the ball in play and put some pressure on McDowell. Alan did a very good job of spotting his fastball and our defense played tremendously. Getting that third District 10 Title in a row really puts in perspective what kind of program we have at Prep from our Freshmen, JV and Varsity levels."
May 22nd, 2006 - Seniors play final regular season game
Cathedral Prep seniors, Jake
Perez, Alan Lawrence, Justin
Scarpitti, Shane Pacileo, Matt
Stephany, Eric Panko
and Marty Lindenberger played their final regular season game against Central Monday afternoon. The Ramblers ended up losing the game 16-15. Prep plays McDowell Thursday night at 6:00pm at Jerry Uht Park for the District 10 AAAA
Championship.
Coach D's Remarks: "I am honored
to have coached such a great
group of student-athletes. I
have not only gotten to
know these guys as ball players, but as fine gentlemen as well. This close knit group will do whatever it takes to win the District 10 again. I am proud of Jake, Alan, Shane, Justin, Matt, Marty and Eric and what they and their families have given back to the program and look forward to see these guys be successful in the near future."
May 16th, 2006 - Prep loses third of the season.
Prep struggled in the bottom of
the sixth inning giving up 8
runs on only two hits against
McDowell, losing 12-7.
Matt Stephany had four hits and 4 RBI. Ryan Tann and Justin Scarpitti also added two hits a piece. Jake Perez added a two run home run in the 4th inning.
Coach D's Remarks: "When you
walk those many guys and the
defense played a little too
loose, then that's what's
going to happen to us. We did a nice job of putting the ball in play."
May 12th, 2006 - Prep wins 15th of the season. Matt Passauer picked
up his fifth win of the season beating Ft.
LeBeouf Friday night at Ainsworth Field
9-3. Coach D’s Remarks: I
was very happy with Passauer’s performance
against the Bisons. We did a very well job
of laying off pitches in the third to get us baserunners. Tomorrow’s game is what we’ve been waiting for this
season. Winning Region 6 is one of our goals
this season.”
May 10th, 2006 - Ramblers beat Franklin 14-6
Prep got off to
a slow start yesterday in Franklin after
being down 6-1 after the second inning.
Coach D's
Remarks: "We did a very good job coming from
behind. Orloff and Passauer weathered the
storm early. I am proud of these guys not getting too down on each other and putting the ball in play and making things happen.
May 6th, 2006 - "Prep slugs out 21 hits
against Central."
Prep improved to 12-2 beating Central 16-6 Saturday
afternoon at Ainsworth field. The Ramblers were led by Jake
Perez' 5 hits and 2 RBI. Mike Schupp added 3 hits and 3 RBI.
Other multi hit Ramblers included Justin Scarpitt, who hit
his second HR of the season, Ryan Tann, and Matt
Lindenberger. Matt Passauer picked up the victory, striking
out 8 and walking 2. Prep plays Central again on Monday 4:15
at Ainsworth.
"Coach D's Remarks:"It was good to so these guys bounce back
after the loss. This was an important win because it was a
region win. We have to keep it going on Monday."
May 2nd, 2006 - "Ramblers rout Corry 14-4"
Prep won its 11th game
of the season by ten running Corry in 5 innings. James
Orloff picked up his second win of the season, by
allowing 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6. Prep
was led offensively by Shane Pacileo's 3 hits and 5
RBI. Multi-hit players also included Jake Perez, Ryan
Tann, Shane Braendel, Justin Scarpitti, and Matt
Stephany."
Coach D's Recap: "James
pitched very well today by getting ahead of the hitters
and hitting his location. Offensively we did a
tremendous job of getting the barrel on the baseball. We
need to stay focused for Friday's Region game."
May 1st, 2006 - "Prep beats Meadville 15-1 in six innings."
The Prep baseball team scored 12 in the top of the 6th
inning yesterday to pound the Bulldogs 15-1. The Ramblers
were lead by Shane Braendel's 4 hits included a two run
double in the 4th and a grand slam homerun in the 6th
inning. Justin Scarpitti added two hits, and Ryan Tann had 2
RBI. Jake Perez walked and scored 4 times. Alan Lawrence
picked up his third victory of the season, striking out 6
and allowing 3 hits. Conor Connell came in relief striking
out one and allowing one hit in 3 innings.
Coach D's Recap "We got strong pitching performances out of
Alan and Conor, they spotted their pitches very effectively.
We were patient at the plate, and when you get guys in
scoring position, then good things will happen. Shane
Braendel show evidence of that today."
April 28th, 2006 - "Ramblers breeze by Strong Vincent 11-0 in 6 innings."
The Prep baseball team improved to 9-1 downing the SV Friday
afternoon. Prep got going in the third with a leadoff base
hit by Mike Schupp. Shupp then stole second and eventually
scored on a wild pitch. Jake Perez walked, then Ryan Tann
singled, followed by a Shane Braendel walk, ended up loading
the bases. Shane Pacileo then drove in two runs roping a two
run double down the left field line. Prep scored two more in
the fourth, and 5 more in the sixth, making it 11-0. Matt
Pasauer won his third game of the season, striking out 7 and
surrendering just three hits. The Ramblers are back in
action Monday at Meadville 4:30, then back at Ainsworth
against Corry on Tuesday at 4:15.
April 26th, 2006 - "Ramblers beat Oil City 4-2" The Prep baseball team won their 8th game, downing the Oilers 4-2 yesterday at Oil City. In the first, Ryan Tann walked then stole second. He scored on a base hit by Shane Pacileo. The Ramblers scored again in the 4th lead by a Justin Scarpitti walked, he moved to 2nd on a passed ball, then scored by Matt Lewis’ double. Prep scored one more in the 5th and the 6th to get their total to 4.Ryan Tann, Matt lewis, and Jake Perez each had two hits for the Ramblers. Alan Lawrence picked up his second victory going the distance striking out 12. Coach D’s Remarks: “We had to move the baseball around today to get some guys in scoring position. Alan pitched a great game. I am very happy with this win.”
April 11th, 2006 - "Prep blasts McDowell 11-4"
Prep scored 8 runs in the second inning on route to their
third victory in a row. Justin Scarpitti started the 2nd
with a double to right center, after a walk by Matt Stephany
and Lewis, Prep scored their first run by an infield base
hit by Mike Schupp, Jake Perez then singled in two, followed
by a squeeze by Ryan Tann. Back to back singles by Shane
Braendel and Shane Pacileo led to two more runs. Scarpitti walked,
then Stephany blasts a two run double off the right center
fence, allowed the ramblers to increase the their lead to
8-0.
Braendel added fuel to the fire by slamming his first
homerun of the season in the 4th inning, that brought
the score to 9-0. Alan Lawrence cruised on the mound,
allowing 2 hits in six innings, picking up his first win of
the season.
Coach D's Recap: We were able to capitalize on some of
McDowell's mistakes in the second inning. Our hitters were
very patient during that time as well. It was nice to see
many timely hits when so many runners on base during that
inning. Lawrence did a very good job today being that he
hasn't pitched in a game for a week. It felt good to get
that first one against McDowell.
April 3rd, 2006 - "Ramblers Roll Past East 11-0"Conner Connell pitched a 3 hitter Monday afternoon at Ainsworth Field as the Ramblers win their season opener. Jake Perez and Ryan Tann led Prep with two hits and both scoring twice. Connell struck out 5 and didn't allow a walk in 5 innings. Alan Lawrence finished the 6th inning with two strike outs. The Ramblers play again this Wednesday against Central at 4:15 at Ainsworth Field. Coach Dombkowski's Recap: "Connor did a very good job locating all of his pitches. Matt Lindenberger called an excellent game, keeping hitters off balanced the whole game. I was very pleased with the way the defense played, and with the conditions as they were, our hitters did a good job moving the baseball."

The Ramblers celebrate after a home run by Todd Eckroat. Prep beat McDowell 10-0 to win their second straight District 10 Championship. The Ramblers look to Three-peat as District 10 Champions in 2006. This feat hasn’t been accomplished since the Ramblers did it in the 1989-1991 baseball seasons.
